Déjà vu

           

        We Filipinos are a people of culture. Festivals are already truly forever in our very hearts and will remain constant at the very most end. We all love family gatherings, events and most importantly, festivals, like I said. Due to the burden of misfortunes that the Covid-19 had brought us, the absurdly number of cases are continuing to arise and seems like it’ll never end at a point, or is it?

        Kannawidan. An event where most Ilocos Surians, especially Biguenos, gather at a specific place to celebrate a once in a year event, the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival. It is usually celebrated at the last week of January, and it is where most people have fun, make memories, try new things, and mingle with everybody else. It is full of activities, with every single activity has its own day and time frame.

        

        

Time travelling back to 2019, it was still all at its finest, with people living a normal and happy life. Then thunder struck, the Covid-19 had gone wild, and almost every part of the world got shut-down and into a pandemic we never thought would happen. And the last Kannawidan Festival had been held at that very year, not until now.

       With the help of the government and the never-ending support of the citizens, we made it happen. With the slowly decreasing number of cases, it was officially announced, the Ylocos Kannawidan Festival of 2022. The festival was welcomed by a grand ton of fireworks that covers the starry night sky, with lots of people gathered as they gazed at the beautiful and colorful fireworks, that tells us it has begun. Massive events like the “Saniata ti Ylocos”, and ended it with the LGBTQ night at the very last day, that spreads awareness and respect to the people who are gays.

          The festival was just full of it, joy, love, and that sweet sensation and feeling that you can once again witness and feel the true beauty of the Kannawidan Festival. It gives you that nostalgic feeling, that adds up to all of your emotions, that makes it a little bit different, in a good way… It’s déjà vu.
