40 Days of the Lent Season

Lenten season is a 40-day event, that is celebrated by mostly on Christians. It is a spiritual event        preparation before Easter. Six weeks, or 40-days of self-examination and reflection, Christians who are quite having the Lent feeling, typically makes a commitment, and that is to fast or something to give up, like addictions, or doing a bad thing that you are currently doing. It is like a 6-week of changing yourself for the better, and commit your life and yourself to the hands of the God.

Nowadays of the Covid-19, the pandemic is still up, and strict protocols haven’t really been discarded. The skyrocketing of cases, and the continuous spread of it, really affected a lot in the past few years. And one of them is the Lenten Season. Ash Wednesday, where it all begins. Christian and other people participating the season, are encouraged to go on masses, and listen to the words of God inside churches. Most of the time, the Priest inside the church would give everybody a cross sign in their foreheads that is made of ash. The marking represents mortality and penance for the observer’s sins. Also, every heard of the tradition or doing during the Lent Season? It’s called the “Visita Igesia”. “Visita Iglesia” is technically one fun activity that we can do during the season. This is where you visit at least 7 churches during Holy Thursday and Good Friday. It is one of the most popular Holy Week panatas, or sacred vows, that Filipino Catholics make.

It saddens me that it couldn’t really be the same as the last few years of the Lenten Season. Where everything was till in its normal state, and no protocols are being followed. It really spoils out the fun and spirit of the Lenten Season, and it limits us from doing what we normally do. But despite all of the challenges right now, we must still try our best to participate, and strengthen the relationship between us and Him, the one and only our God.
